My dear client Fionnuala has written down a reflection on our work together. I am absolutely delighted that I am allowed to share them on my website!
Here is her text, enjoy!
My thoughts on Somatic Movement
Somatics brings an inner peace to the body that allows one to go off and dig the garden, or lie on a beach, or re-organise the world, what ever takes your fancy! Katrin is a remarkable teacher, with a real gift for encouraging and empowering her clients to recover.
Her kindness and humour, her confidence, gives her clients the resilience to allow their bodies to release and recover natural movement and flexibility. She is indeed a talented teacher.
I have found Somatics to be an amazing system of muscle and tension release for the body; extraordinary in that it requires minimum effort to produce a maximum effect. To lie or sit or stand and be asked to make minimal movements is at once very relaxing for the mind and body but afterwards can leave me feeling pleasantly tired in a nice sort of way, as though one had been on a walk through a forrest or beside the sea, physically and mentally refreshed.
The reactions of the body to these minimal movements can sometimes be unexpected. What is actually released is quite often not the muscles that one was aware of giving trouble (oh, my aching back! my sore leg! etc) but releases quite a different set of muscles in the body which is actually holding the strain or the tension. Unexpected too, can sometimes be the strength of the reaction, occasionally emotional, which will follow the release.
I think Somatics shows how little we (ordinary folk) understand the interactions of the muscles with the absorbed stresses and tensions of daily life. “The Body Keeps The Score” to quote Van der Kolk.
